Use the English expression “to pay a visit to.”
How would you say the following in English?

Grammar note : aurait rendu visite : literally, ‘would have paid a visit.’ This is the conditionnel passé. Note that the conditionnel and conditionnel passé can be used to express that we have no proof of the statement. So, in an article about a crime suspect, instead of « Ensuite, il s’est rendu chez un ami », (Afterwards, he went to a friend’s house,) you might read, « Ensuite, il se serait rendu chez un ami. » (Afterwards, he supposedly went to a friend’s house.) The second sentence’s se serait is the conditional alternative to s’est in the 1st sentence.

Il a marché 20 kilomètres pour rendre visite à sa fille.

He walked 20 kilometers to pay a visit to his daughter.

Je rendais visite à ma mère.
