Why is it not “vouz apportez vos ruches”. I thought amenez was for people?

Thank you for the comment. I had to look this up, so I thank you for having pushed me to learn a little about this. It turns out that there are nuances.

After reading up, I now think of apporter and emporter as being only for things that you can hold in your hands. Things that you really can carry. But for bigger stuff, you’ll often hear amener.

And now I need to modify the flashcard to avoid any chance of confusing people. (So, thank you, because now the flashcards will be more useful.)

As far as what I found when searching, please see the section “Amener au sens de « diriger » ou d’« occasionner »” at this page… https://vitrinelinguistique.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/25222/le-vocabulaire/nuances-semantiques/difference-entre-apporter-et-amener.

An example often given is that of an automobile. It is an inanimate object, but cannot be carried. So, instead of using apporter, the French use amener. The example given in the link above is… “J’amène ma voiture au garage.”

      And on this page… https://www.projet-voltaire.fr/regles-orthographe/apporter-ou-amener-emporter-ou-emmener/
… we read, “Néanmoins, quand on n’a pas à porter ce qu’on déplace (comme un chien à roulettes, le chargement d’une camionnette, une voiture…), on emploie « amener » ou « emmener ».”

So, on the page above, we have a usage that exactly matches our situation with the hives. They are in the back of a vehicule. So, this corresponds to the example given in the link above… “le chargement d’une camionette”

In English, I might have said, ‘You take them’ or ‘You transport them’ instead of ‘You carry them.’ I think that is what is going on here: something other than apporter was needed?
