  1. Another “trick” that may help one to hear the “ont” is to tap the rhythm for “vos enfants ont quitté la maison”. The rhythm is da-da-da da-da-da da-da-da. If the “ont” were not there, the rhythm would be da-da-da da-da da-da-da. This may not help your ears to identify the sound exactly, but you will know there is space for the syllable.
