I easily heard a difference, but it took several listens to zero-in on where the specific difference was between the two recordings.

Hello Rich, thank you for letting me know. Yes, this is normal. It will take many listens to hear some of these sounds. Hopefully, once you have heard them once, the sound will be learned and you won’t have further problems with that particular sound.

BY golly, why do he French ned to speak their beautiful language so fast that the words drop out? So when I speak to someone there, they must think I just fell out of a tree, my speaking must seem so labored!

Hello Eleanor, first, thank you for letting me know. I think you are probably talking about the first question or the very last question of the quiz. And I agree, the difference is very slight. You may hear it if you do this: play the first sound 3 or 4 times, then play the second sound 3 or 4 times. Hopefully your auditory store will help you compare the two and hear the difference. Once you have heard the ‘de’ the first time, you’ll know what it sounds like and have a better chance of recognizing it in future interview.
